Tax-Free Weekend For ENERGY STAR Appliances In Maryland
ANNAPOLIS (CBSDC) — Appliance shoppers in Maryland will save money over the next few days thanks to the Shop Maryland Energy, tax-free weekend that begins at midnight on Saturday and runs until midnight on Monday.
Marylanders who purchase qualifying ENERGY STAR products will not have to pay the six percent state sales tax during that period.
The tax-free weekend is an annual event that will continue until the lawmakers decide to revisit the issue.
Items exempt from tax include air conditioners, clothes washer, furnaces, heat pumps, standard size refrigerators, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL), dehumidifiers, and programmable thermostats that have been designated as meeting or exceeding the applicable ENERGY STAR efficiency requirements.
