CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBSDC) — After continuing briefly today, the murder trial of former UVA lacrosse player has been delayed yet again, because of a sick member of the defense.
George Huguely and his defense team reluctantly resumed trial Friday morning without co-counsel, Rhonda Quagliana. They pleaded with Circuit Judge George Hogshire to postpone the trial for a second consecutive day, but would not allow it and insisted they should be finished by Friday evening or Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after the trial of George Huguely V reconvened, charged with murdering his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love, court had to stop again. Bruce Leshan of 9 News Now reports the reason for the stoppage is that Quagliana is too sick to present medical witnesses.
The defense was originally expected to close out the majority of its case by Thursday and begin closing arguments by Friday.
