UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Get ready for reduced speeds around schools in Prince George’s County.

Officials have activated speed cameras at 24 new locations near school zones. These new cameras are part of a program that began in September of 2011.  They are operating between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and are activated when they detect a driver traveling 12 or more miles over the speed limit. The fine for a violation is $40.

The county has said it plans to have more cameras operating this year.

For a full list of speed camera locations, vist the county’s website.
