BALTIMORE (CBSDC/AP) — More than 100 ancient artworks from Mexico, Central America and the Andes are on display at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
The collection of 135 works date from 1200 B.C. to 1530 and were donated to the museum by John Bourne, who is known for his explorations of southern Mexico. A native of New Mexico, Bourne began collecting when he took a trip to Chiapas, Mexico at the age of 19.
The exhibition features musical instruments used during ceremonies as well as sculptures, pottery and other artworks.
The ancient works are on display through May 20, and afterward will travel to the Albuquerque Museum of Art & History in New Mexico, where the collection will be on display this summer.
