Ben & Jerry’s Kicks Off “Get The Dough Out Of Politics” Campaign With Free Ice Cream
WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — When you think Ben & Jerry’s you probably think of ice cream, but the famous frozen treat makers from Vermont also want you to think politics these days.
The ice cream guys say there’s too much money in American politics and it’s drowning out people’s voices. As such, they’re launching the Get the Dough Out of Politics campaign in hopes of overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.
The 2010 decision removed the limits on independent spending for political purposes by corporations and unions, which opponents argue buys endless influence.
According to their website, getthedoughout.org, their goal is to take back American democracy, and over-rule the Supreme Court, with a Constitutional Amendment that will keep corporate money out of our elections.
The company is kicking off it’s efforts by giving away a free scoop of its “Americone Dream” ice cream from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Ben & Jerry’s has 14 locations in the metro area including three in D.C.
