GAITHERSBURG, Md. (CBSDC) — Two young girls were struck by a van Friday night in Gaithersburg.

Authorities say the juveniles, both 12-years-old, were hit in the 600 block of N. Frederick Ave. They were transported by ambulance to the pediatric trauma center at Children’s Hospital in serious condition.

Few details were immediately made available although Montgomery County Police said there was no indication the driver of the vehicle that struck the victims fled the scene.

Police are not treating the accident as a possible fatality.

Route 355 was closed for hours as a result of the accident, but reopened around 10:07 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
