ANNAPOLIS, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Former Annapolis Mayor Dennis Callahan has died of a heart attack.

His death Wednesday morning was confirmed by the Anne Arundel County government, where Callahan served as the chief administrative officer.

Callahan, who served as mayor from 1985 to 1989, was 70. He lost a re-election bid in the 1989 Democratic primary.

He was also a former director of the Recreation and Parks Department of  Anne Arundel County.
