Occupy DC Protestor Jeremiah Desausa Threw Bottle, Not Brick At Police Officer
WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Authorities in the District now say a demonstrator at an Occupy DC encampment threw a liquid-filled soda bottle, not a brick, hitting a U.S. Park Police officer after police began removing tents over the weekend.
Court documents available Monday say the demonstrator, Jeremiah Desausa, threw the Coke bottle around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Authorities say he resisted arrest and was subdued with a Taser. He later said he hadn’t intended to hit anyone.
Authorities had previously said the object thrown was a brick. The court document describing the incident says the officer hit by the bottle has a serious eye injury. Doctors told him they will not know if he suffered permanent eye damage until swelling and bleeding subside.
A Park Police spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment Monday.
