MILLERSVILLE, Md. (AP) — Anne Arundel County Police are charging one of their own officers with allegedly helping drug dealers attempt to evade police.
Police say 36-year-old Cpl. Rick Alexander was arrested Friday. He is charged with obstruction and hindering a police officer, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, conspiracy to distribute cocaine and misconduct.
Police say Alexander tipped off a group of suspects that a search warrant was going to be executed at their home on Thursday night. Investigators say they confirmed the allegation against Alexander Friday based on phone records and conversations.
During the search, a small quantity of suspected drugs was recovered by police. Detectives later were directed to another location where they found nearly 83 grams of suspected marijuana, valued at about $829.
Alexander was a 14-year member of the department.
