WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Metropolitan Police are investigating the stabbing death of JaParker Jones, a transgender woman, at a Northeast bus stop on Thursday night.

The victim was stabbed in the head around 8:15 p.m. at E. Capitol St. and Sycamore Rd. NE.

A passerby flagged down a Metro Transit Police officer who responded to the unconscious victim.

The responding officers initially believed the victim was a female. The victim was transported to PG Hospital Center with life threatening injuries where she was died early Friday morning.

A Metro Transit Police spokesman told WNEW the gender of the victim was revised once they arrived at the hospital.

Police describe the suspect as a black male with a beard and medium complexion between 30 and 40 years of age. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black jacket with a gray hooded sweatshirt underneath.

Metropolitan Police have taken the lead in the investigation due to the severity of the crime.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the subject crossing the middle of the intersection walking toward the bus stop in the following video.
