When winter hits the DC area, we are left finding fun things to do for the kids. Check out these popular places in the area to keep the kids cozy and entertained.

Discovery Theater

Price: $4 for Smithsonian Members, $6 per adult, $5 per child

This theater offers live performances daily of fairy and folktales through music, dancing and puppetry. All of the performances have a themes based on the season. Their shows are designed to teach kids about diversity in our region and different regions of the world. Discovery Theater offer shows at other Smithsonian Museums and at the Round Theatre.

Rock Creek Park Planetarium

The Planetarium is a the perfect place to visit and learn about our planet and have fun at the same time. It is located with the Rock Creek Park Nature Center. Children can learn about planets and stars. They offer age appropriate classes on select days. Tickets for the planetarium are free and can be picked up at the Nature Center.

Natural Building Museum (NBM)

Price: Free for museum members; $8 per adult, $5 per child (ages 3-17) and seniors

NBM is a privately funded museum in the heart of the city. They offer activities and events for all ages. The exhibits on display are educational and intriguing and range from the learning about architecture through Legos to the Building Zone, which caters to young children.

This Is a great place to visit for families. It caters to children from toddlers to 11 years old. They feature cityshops, which are different playrooms inside of the Playseum. Each room has theme representing a shop, you may see in a city. They have a great recycling program and has offers incentives to encourage children to recycle. By supporting Playseum, you will be supporting the charities they donate to in India and Africa.

Thrill-O-Rama is a fabulous place to visit for kids between the ages of 1 -14. They offer a great combination of technology, fitness and creative arts. They offer nine awesome play zones including Bookworm Cove for the avid reader, CyberZone with state of the art Apple iMacs, SPAtastic Studio with mini-spa treatments.
