ROCKVILLE (CBSDC) – A Montgomery County teacher is under arrest for allegedly having sex with a student whom he coached and taught when she was in the 8th grade.

Montgomery County Police charged 47-year-old Scott Duane Spear with two counts of committing a fourth-degree sex offense on Thursday.

Spear is a teacher at Julius West Middle School and the basketball and track coach at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville.

Police initiated an investigation after they received information that a 16-year-old student at Richard Montgomery High School had sexual intercourse with Spear.

The unnamed complainant told police the student informed them that she had sex with Spear in May or June or 2011.

Spear had been the girl’s track coach since 2009 and was also her 8th grade teacher.

The student and teacher were in constant contact with each other during that time. Authorities say the pair frequently communicated via cell phone during and after school hours as well as on weekend.

Spear allegedly initiated a sexual relationship with the girl at his residence in April or May of 2011. They had sex at least twice according to police.

Not a surprise. Not at all. I think I speak for thousands of Julius West and RM alumnae/faculty/administrators who knew it was only a matter of time before something like this came to the surface.

Mr. Spear is the CROSS-COUNTRY coach, not the track coach. It may seem a detail, but the sports differ, as do their participants and trainers. And let’s remember that these are allegations, as far as we know.

as one of his cross-country runners, as well as a former student…and a girl, I can say to all of you that based on my personal interactions with him and knowledge of stuff happening back in 98…this really isn’t a surprise.

I saw an African American teacher walking with a teenage male student near the run off pond on Mt. Vernon Pl and it is on the same land very close to the school.
Everyone was looking at the nesting of a Mother goose and her mate protecting his family for a couple of weeks and it was a celebrated event for the neighborhood and
those passing slowly by to watch.
The teenage boy began throwing rocks at the geese and yelling “beast BEAST”
The woman did not stop him and someone asked if she was Richard Montgomery teacher after calling on the student to stop. She denied it as they both walk back and in to the School.
I have seen nothing but arrogance and an inflated sense of ientitlement from authorities and teachers from hat place.
