FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — The search for Lenwood “Lenny” Harris came to a tragic end this weekend as police confirmed the body found in a Fort Washington well was that of the missing Alexandria community activist.
Authorities confirmed the 53-year-old Harris had been shot to death prior to being dumped in a 20-foot well behind an unoccupied home.
Harris and Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille had known each other for more than 30 years. Harris worked on Euille’s campaigns and the pair played basketball together.
The mayor said he admired Harris’ advocacy for young kids, the elderly and those living in public housing.
He said the manner in which Harris died was nothing short of shocking.
“We would all like to know why,” Euille said Monday. “Why him? Why that way?”
