ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — A new Metrobus route is beginning between Tysons Corner and the Mark Center in northern Virginia.
Metro reports that the limited-stop 28X route responds to rider concerns that travel times are slow. Only 13 stops are served on Leesburg Pike/Broad Street between Tysons Corner and Baileys Crossroads, speeding up travel for those wanting a faster trip.
Metro goes on to say that the Route 28X Leesburg Pike Limited Service will be extended to include eastbound trips in the morning and westbound trips in the evening to the Mark Center in Alexandria, Va. The buses will run every 25 to 30 minutes during rush hour between the Mark Center and Tysons Corner.
In Tysons Corner, the 28 Line used to loop around International Drive and Ring Road. The routing of this loop has been changed to Towers Crescent Drive, Ring Road, and Fashion Boulevard, which will cut several minutes from the line’s travel time.
The new route includes stops at the West Falls Church Metro station and Seven Corners Shopping Center. It will no longer make stops on Columbia Pike and Carlin Springs Road.
Metro says it will increase service between the West Falls Church Metro station and the Mark Center in June.
