FORT WASHINGTON, MD (CBSDC) — Fort Foote Elementary School in Fort Washington, Md. was locked down Wednesday afternoon after a man entered the building and tried to rob a secretary inside.

Prince George’s County Police say the incident took place shortly after 2:30 p.m.

The suspect was apparently scared off and fled on foot shortly after demanding money from the victim. He is still at large.

“We rarely if ever get any robberies at the schools here in the county of this order,” police spokesman Mike Rodriguez told WNEW. “This is definitely a rare incident.”

Police describe the suspect as a black male in his early 20’s with a slim build and medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a dark gray hood with blue jeans.

Students were dismissed at their normal time of 3:25 p.m.
