The Washington Wizards have fired head coach Flip Saunders after 2-15 start to the season.
It is now confirmed by the Washington Post that Wizards’ assistant coach Randy Wittman will take over interim head coaching duties. Wittman has previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves posting a not sure reassuring career record of 100-207.
The firing comes on the heels of a home loss on Sunday to a depleted Boston Celtics team and an embarrassing drubbing by Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night. At halftime the 76ers led 62-32.
In three-plus seasons in Washington, Saunders led the team to a 51-130 record. Saunders was in the third year of a four-year, $18 million contract.
Currently, the Wizards have the worst record in the NBA this season.
