I read Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis’ blog post today and laughed. He titled it, “Going as I expected.” Really? You thought the Wizards would be the absolute WORST team in the NBA? Did you envision the team captain fighting with the head coach after just ONE GAME too? As Mike Wise would say, “Are you serious?”

The Wizards are an absolute embarrassment. I checked the stats today and their offense is ranked dead last. That doesn’t come as a total surprise when their most talented player John Wall who was the top pick in the NBA draft last season is shooting a horrific 30% from the field. The Wizards head coach Flip Saunders told us a few weeks ago that Wall had improved his jump shot. It’s still early, but I haven’t seen it.

Speaking of shooting, have you seen their horrible percentage from beyond the arc? The Wizards are making just 28% of their three-point attempts and making just four per game. That’s sad in the modern day NBA.

Ted points to the Wizards’ youth and to the experience of teams like the Celtics, Lakers and Mavericks. He says this experience translates into wins. That may be true, but the youth of the Wizards is also an excuse. Young teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder are contenders. Youth is great but only when it is the RIGHT youth. Does anybody reading this really believe that any of the Wizards young players besides maybe Javale McGee and John Wall will be All-Stars?

Look, I get that Ted gutted this team and said good-bye to veterans like Antawn Jamison, Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler. I get that the Wizards are trying to build through the draft. But don’t try to sell us on a bill of goods that this team is headed in the right direction. The Wizards have too many me-first guys like Andray Blatche and I don’t see them turning it around anytime soon. Sure they are young, but they also aren’t very talented.

Ted, I love that you interact with fans and you’ve been great to our show over the years, but I don’t really believe that 87 games into a new plan, 1 full season and five games into a new season that you could have expected this. If so, please let me know the winning numbers of the next Power Ball.

JP, you haven’t said anything that isn’t captured by what Ted calls messy, painful and difficult. That’s exactly what all of those things are. When I go to the stats tomorrow and the next day, SOMEONE will be ranked dead last (no matter which stat or which sport).

How about putting some trust into a guy that has brought, if not the ultimate prize, then new life and competitiveness to this town’s hockey team.
