The Capitals held practice today coming off their 4-1 win over the New York Rangers last night. It doesn’t get any easier for the Caps, who are currently tenth in the Eastern conference and one point out of the final playoff spot, as they host the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow.
The Sabres, who are one point behind the Caps, have dominated them in two games this season, but both were in Buffalo. The first one came November 28th, Bruce Boudreau’s last game as the Capitals head coach, when the Caps lost 5-1. The second loss came Monday in Buffalo when the Caps lost 4-2.
The Caps forward lines this morning looked like: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin, Chimera-Laich-Ward, Johansson-Halpern-Brouwer, Hendricks-Perreault-Beagle-Knuble. The second line yesterday, Johansson-Halpern-Brouwer, got moved to the third line today, while the third line yesterday, Chimera-Laich-Ward, is now the second line.
Caps defenseman Mike Green fully practiced with the team for the third day in a row.
“We’ll skate tomorrow again, see how I feel,” Green said on when he might play. “You never know. Maybe I could play [tomorrow]. But it looks like next week.”
Listen here to what Dale Hunter, Mike Green, Dennis Wideman, Karl Alzner, Nicklas Backstrom & Matt Hendricks had to say following practice.
