Reporting Sky Kerstein
The Washington Capitals (15-12-1, 31 points), winners of three of their last four including two in a row, host the Eastern Conference leading Philadelphia Flyers (18-7-3, 39 points) tonight for a 7pm faceoff. The Capitals beat the Flyers earlier this year 5-2 up in Philadelphia for their only meeting so far this season. The Caps are 7-0-3 in their last ten regular season games against the Flyers and the last time the Caps lost a regulation game to the Flyers was 2009.
The Caps likely line up tonight will be: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin, Brouwer-Johansson-Halpern, Chimera-Laich-Ward, Eakin-Perreault-Knuble, Alzner-Carlson, Hamrlik-Orlov, Erskine-Wideman.
Matt Hendricks will miss his third game in a row with a knee injury, but Capitals Head Coach Dale Hunter says he’s still day-to-day and will go on the team’s two game road trip following tomorrow’s practice. Hendricks skated for a little over an hour today. Jeff Schultz will be a healthy scratch for the Caps for the second game in a row. Jay Beagle (concussion) skated once again today, but still isn’t cleared for contact.
Tomas Vokoun (12-7-0, 2.70 GAA, .910 Save pct.) will be in goal for the Caps.
The Flyers are 7-3-0 in their last ten games and have won five in a row but will be without Chris Pronger (concussion, knee surgery), Claude Giroux (kneed in head last game) and Brayden Schenn (concussion) tonight.
Flyers Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov (13-5-2, 2.83 GAA, .897 Save pct.) hurt himself last game, but reports are he is likely starting tonight. If for some reason he can’t go, Sergei Bobrovsky (5-2-1, 2.75 GAA, .906 Save pct.) will be in goal for the Flyers.
