The Caps held practice today as they prepare for the Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday after losing their third in a row and first under Dale Hunter last night 2-1 to the St. Louis Blues. The Capitals also practiced with new defensive assistant coach Jim Johnson who replaces the fired Bob Woods. The Caps ran their same lines as the last few days and everyone healthy practiced.
Mike Green skated for the fourth day out of the last five but says there is no timetable yet for his return. He also had some interesting comments about the firing of Bruce Boudreau that you can hear here.
Capitals goalie Tomas Vokoun talked to the media today about the new system Dale Hunter is implementing and had some really good things to say.
“We’re going to be playing playoff style kind of hockey all year,” Vokoun said. “I think that’s going to be beneficial down the road for us big time.”
Capitals Head Coach Dale Hunter talked about bringing in a new defensive assistant head coach like Jim Johnson.
“I knew Jimmy [Jim Johnson],” Hunter said. “I played with him and he’s a student of the game, I think he played almost 800 and some games, when we were playing together we used to talk a lot of hockey, some guys are just watching the games, we were talking the game together, I know he’s a hockey guy and definitely will help our ‘D'[defense].”
A Capitals spokesman said there will be no more changes to the coaching staff.
