Redskins Finally Back In Win Column
The Redskins snap a six game losing streak and defeat the Seattle Seahawks 23-17 to go to 4-7 on the season. Rex Grossman threw it 50 yards to Anthony Armstrong, who was being interfered with, for the game winning touchdown with 6:26 remaining left in the fourth.
Grossman ended up 26 for 35 for 314 yards and two touchdowns. Grossman though also threw two interceptions, one he threw in triple coverage, and has at least one interception in all but one of his starts this season. Grossman was sacked once on the day and the Redskins were 1 for 3 in the red zone. Grossman now has 10 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on the season.
The Redskins offense had 306 passing yards and 110 rushing yards. They were 3 of 10 on third down and held the ball for 33 minutes and 20 seconds. Roy Helu had his first career 100 yard rushing game going for 108 yards on 23 carries including a 28 yard touchdown run. Evan Royster had his first NFL carry and ran it one time for three yards.
Jabar Gaffney led the Redskins receivers with 72 yards on five catches. Fred Davis had four catches for 58 yards including a two yard touchdown catch and Roy Helu had seven catches for 54 yards. Anthony Armstrong had one catch for the 50 yard touchdown and Santana Moss, playing in his first game since breaking his hand in week five, had four catches for 29 yards. Darrel Young, who left the game with a concussion, had two catches for 22 yards.
The Redskins special teams were a disaster though, as Graham Gano had two kicks blocked, one was an extra point and one was a chip shot field goal. Gano made one field goal for 25 yards. The Redskins also gave up a 51 yard kickoff return to start the second half.
The Redskins sacked Tavaris Jackson two times and the Seahawks ended up with 126 passing yards and 124 rushing yards. The Redskins held the Seahawks to 6 of 16 on third down and 0 for 1 on fourth down. LaRon Landry, who missed last week with an achillies injury, had one sack and four total tackles while Stephen Bowen and Brian Orakpo each had half a sack. Bowen ended up with six tackles and Orakpo had four tackles. Perry Riley led the Redskins with 14 total tackles and London Fletcher had 11 tackles.
