Yahoo! NFL columnist Doug Farrar joined “The Sports Junkies” on 106.7 The Fan to discuss the first 10 weeks of the NFL and when asked about the Redskins, it did not come as a surprise to him the biggest weakness of the team is the quarterback position because of coach Mike Shanahan’s history with it.
“If you look at Mike Shanahan’s quarterback history since John Elway retired, it’s not pretty. You got Brian Griese, Jake Plummer, Jay Cutler…,” Farrar said. “It seems to me there is some combination of coaching ego, kind of passed down to his son. And it seems to me he doesn’t have a real good handle on quarterback talent.”
Farrar also reiterates the fact that an elite quarterback in the league separates the poor and mediocre teams from the top playoff ones. He also suggests that Shanahan may be trying to prove something to everyone by trying to convert an average quarterback into a winning one based on the success of his offensive system.
