Redskins beat reporter Grant Paulsen joined “The Sports Junkies” to help recap the team’s 23-0 shutout loss to the Buffalo Bill in Toronto and offer perspective on the team and the Shanahan regime.
Paulsen looks at players like Anthony Armstrong who was third in the league last year in yards per catch and did not have a reception against Buffalo. Ryan Torain was the team’s leading rusher and has become a two yards per carry type back.
The problem is not having the talent in skill positions but also a lack of talent in the most influential position on the field.
“Mike Shanahan, who’s known as someone who coaches them up to a very high level. Who finds guys and makes them better has not been able to. He guessed wrong at the expense of some draft picks with Donovan McNabb. He guessed wrong in saying he trusted Rex Grossman,” Paulsen said. “The Question becomes: What’s the plan?” he added.
Paulsen rated this loss the third worse in recent years. The Monday Night Football embarrassment hosting the Eagles and the Jim Zorn “swinging gate” fake field game against the Giants were worse in his mind.
