The Capitals had one last practice at KCI before they hit the road for a quick west coast swing in Edmonton and Vancouver.  This is the first multi-game road trip for the Capitals this season.  The Caps are flying out today to not only get used to the time change, but to watch the Vancouver Canucks @ the Edmonton Oilers tonight.

Jay Beagle and Mike Green were the only two Capitals not to practice today.

Green has a lower body injury and is officially day to day.  He hasn’t practiced the last two days and in case he can’t play, the Capitals recalled defenseman Sean Collins from AHL Hershey today.  Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau did say today that Green is going on the two game road trip and they are hoping he can skate tomorrow.  Collins aknowledged that he is going on the road trip as well.

Bruce Boudreau said about Sean Collins, that if they kept seven defenseman, not counting the injured John Erskine, it would’ve been “the logical choice” to of kept him.  Collins has played in 19 career NHL regular season games and has two goals, one assist with a +3 rating.  Collins also played in the fourth and final game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the playoffs last season.

John Erskine still hasn’t been cleared for contact and is not going on the road trip.  Beagle is suspected in having a concussion following getting knocked out in a fight against the Penguins on October 13th and hasn’t practiced since then.  He is listed as week to week and isn’t going on the road trip.

The Caps had their normal lines at practice today, besides the defense switching around with Mike Green out.  If Green can’t play against Edmonton, then look for Sean Collins to be working with Jeff Schultz and Roman Hamrlik to be paired with Dennis Wideman.

Bruce Boudreau hinted that Michal Neuvirth, who hasn’t played since the first game of the season with a bruised foot, could start against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.  Neuvirth, in his lone start this season, had 28 saves on 31 saves in the Caps 4-3 overtime opening night win against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Listen here to what Bruce Boudreau, Alex Ovechkin, Brooks Laich, Jason Chimera, Mike Knuble & Sean Collins had to say after their final practice before they head to Edmonton today.
