Despite the struggles of Washington Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman the last few games, Super Bowl champion and Redskins legend Joe Theismann doesn’t think Rex should be benched. John Beck will start at QB for the Redskins against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, his first NFL start since 2007 when he was a rookie for the 1-15 Miami Dolphins. Theismann, who joined Mike Wise and Danny Rouhier on “The Mike Wise Show with Holden Kushner,” says he would have kept Grossman as his starting QB despite his recent struggles.

“I just don’t agree with the decision to start John Beck,” Theismann stated. “When you sit down and study the interceptions that Rex threw (aga inst the Eagles), not all of them were his fault.”

Theismann also went on to say that while Rex made some poor decisions, it is still early in the season. “Obviously some of the decision he made were not good,” admits Theismann, “but I think that this is a little bit of a quick hook to be honest with you.”

As for Beck, Theismann believes the new  starter will use his mobility to make plays. “That’s the one thing for sure that John brings to the table that is different than what Rex brings, is the ability to be able to move around.”

Beck will attempt to win just his second NFL game as a starting QB at Carolina on Sunday. The Panthers may be 1-5 this season, but there is no QB controversy in Charlotte thanks to rookie phenom Cam Newton. Game time is at 1:00pm on FOX.
