Washington Post columnist Jason Reid joined “The Sports Junkies” on 106.7 The Fan after the announcement John Beck will start over Rex Grossman against the Carolina Panthers.
Now that John Beck, who lost the open quarterback competition this preseason, is named the starter, he won’t have to look over his shoulder.
“At this point, this is who they’re going to ride with. Even if they’re going to bring in some guy off the street, [Rex Grossman and John Beck] have worked with the receivers…these are the guys who they’re going to ride or die with.”
The quarterback position has plagued the Shanahan regime with the Donovan McNabb experiment failing and now Rex Grossman benched five weeks into the season. Reid thinks the fiasco at the position gives Dan Snyder a reason to start questioning decisions within the coaching staff, especially with quarterbacks.
“He was 0 for 1 with McNabb, he’s 0 for two now with Grossman with anyway you want to cut it, even if he goes back to him because clearly that failed. So he needs to give Beck every opportunity to prove him right to at least make him 1 for 3,” Reid said.
Reid sums up the difference between elite teams and the Redskins is the quarterback and their ability to make players around them better like the Packers and Patriots.
