The 4-1-0 Buffalo Sabres come to town tonight to play the 1-3-1 Washington Capitals for a 7pm faceoff at Verizon Center. The Capitals prepared for their sixth and second to last preseason game with a rare morning skate at Verizon Center this morning.

The Capitals line up tonight should look something like this: Ovechkin-Johansson-Brouwer, Laich-Backstrom-Semin, Chimera-Eakin-Ward, Hendricks-Halpern-Beagle, Alzner-Carlson, Schultz-Green, Hamrlik-Wideman with Vokoun starting in goal and Holtby backing him up.

The scratches tonight look like: Knuble, Sjogren, Erskine, Orlov and King.

Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau said he was giving veteran Mike Knuble the game off and said goalie Michal Neuvirth says he’s 100 percent but they are just being precautionary and Boudreau said they are making sure everyone is “102 percent” before they play them because it’s training camp.  Boudreau said they hope forward Mathieu Perreault is back skating if he or if they want him to play on Sunday in their final preseason game.  Defenseman John Erskine still hasn’t been cleared for contact after offseason shoulder surgery.

The Capitals had some complaints about their new white netting behind the goals after their first preseason game at Verizon Center.  Capitals owner Ted Leonsis blogged, “The black netting is back. The white netting is gone. End of story.”  Below is what it now looks like at Verizon Center.
