The Washington Capitals won their first preseason game last night with a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Verizon Center and are 1-2-1 in the preseason.  The Caps take off to Nashville tomorrow to play their last road preseason game before the end the preseason with two at Verizon Center on Friday and Sunday.

Brooks Laich missed practice yesterday with an undisclosed injury, but was back on the ice today and said, “nothing major, it was very very minor, it’s not something we really need to spend anytime on.”  Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau said they are still “up in the air” on whether Laich will start the season at wing or center and will depend on how they want to shape the team.

The Caps lines today were: Ovechkin-Johansson-Bourque, Semin-Backstrom-Ward, Laich-Perreault-Brouwer, Chimera-Halpern-Sjogren-Knuble, King-Eakin-Beagle-Hendricks, Alzner-Carlson, Schultz-Green, Hamrlik-Wideman, Collins-Erskine, Orlov-McNeill.

Bruce Boudreau said the line of Ovechkin-Johansson-Bourque won’t travel to Nashville.

Listen here to what Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau had to say after practice today about the young guys trying to make the team, Brouwer’s first game, the cracking down of illegal hits in the NHL plus much more.
