Craig Stammen got his first win in a Nationals uniform since August 4th, 2010 tonight. He came in relief of Chien-Ming Wang for an 1 1/3 innings of work and struck out one. Stammen also helped his own cause with a single in the 7th inning and scored the game-winning run.
Wang had an up-and-down night, going just five innings and giving up 9 hits, but did strike out four Mets. Wang continued to keep his sinker sinking, as he induced 7 ground ball outs tonight.
Wang was matched by Dillon Gee who went 5 and 2/3 innings giving up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Gee was let down by his bullpen, where Wang was helped by his.
Lucas Duda got the Mets on the board in the 5th with a single that scored Jose Reyes. Ruben Tejada scored on an error by Jayson Werth.
The Nationals came back in the 6th as Rick Ankiel and Michael Morse hit doubles to score two runs. Ryan Zimmerman drove in the games winning run when he drove in Craig Stammen in the 7th.
The Nationals will look to take game three of four from the Mets as they send Brad Peacock (0-0, 6.75 ERA) to the bump against Mike Pelfrey (7-11, 4.66 ERA). The first pitch at Citi Field will be 7:10 and you can hear the pre-game starting at 6:30 live on The Fan.
