The big news at Redskins Park is that quarterback Rex Grossman has been named the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins.
Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan said, “it was close” and “I got a lot of confidence in both guys after watching them through this camp.” Shanahan also said “I just thought it was the best thing” on naming the starting quarterback now and not later in the week.
On the practice field, LaRon Landry & Chris Cooley both practiced some today according to Shanahan and their status is unknown for Sunday. OJ Atogwe and London Fletcher both fully practiced and are expected to go on Sunday. Kareem Moore is officially still on the PUP list and will miss the first six weeks of the season.
The Captains were also named today and London Fletcher & DeAngelo Hall were named defensive captains while Santana Moss was named offensive captain. Lorenzo Alexander was named the special teams captain.
Also some players had new numbers and they are Tim Hightower who is now 25, Markus White is 55, Chris Neild is 95, Roy Helu is 29, Willie Smith is 69 and Brandyn Thompson is 32.
The Redskins named their practice squad today and that is DL Chris Baker, QB Jonathan Crompton, G Maurice Hurt, CB Nate Ness, G Eric Olsen, WR Aldrick Robinson, RB Evan Royster & DE Doug Worthington. Hurt, Robinson & Royster were draft picks while Worthing was a free agent pick up during the preseason.
