Redskins Score Late To End Preseason With A Win

The Redskins beat the Bucs late for a 29-24 victory and end the preseason 3-1. The Buccaneers sat all 22 of their starters and only played their third and fourth string quarterbacks, while the Redskins sat the majority of their starters.
Brandon Banks, in his second preseason game, returned a 95 yard punt for a touchdown, Evan Royster ran for a one yard touchdown and Donte Stallworth caught a 41 yard pass in the endzone from Kellen Clemens with 1:07 left in the giving the Redskins the lead and the win. Graham Gano kicked a 22 yard field goal, 27 yard field goal and 35 yard field goal to end the preseason a perfect 10 for 10 in field goals.
Rex Grossman didn’t play while John Beck played the entire first half and went 10 of 21 for 108 yards and an interception. Beck played behind the entire starting offensive line but was missing Santana Moss, Jabar Gaffney, Darrel Young, Fred Davis, Chris Cooley, Tim Hightower & Roy Helu who all sat out the final preseason game.
Redskins back up quarterback Matt Gutierrez played the majority of the second half going 5 of 12 for41 yards and an interception while Kellen Clemens followed Gutierrez going 5 of 7 for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Evan Royster was the starting running back and had 11 attempts for 44 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with a mild concussion. Ryan Torain also got his first touches of the preseason running for 73 yards on 17 carries.
Donte Stallworth led the Redskins wide receivers with five receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Leonard Hankerson had four catches for 36 yards and Niles Paul had three catches for 21 yards.
Defensively the Redskins sat DeAngelo Hall, Rocky McIntosh, Ryan Kerrigan, London Fletcher, Barry Cofield, Stephen Bowen & Brian Orakpo. LaRon Landry & Kareem Moore also didn’t play since they are still on the PUP list. Perry Riled led the Redskins with 8 combined tackles, while Keyaron Fox had six and Davonte Shannon and Markus White each had five. Shannon, White, Edgar Jones, Kedric Golston and Rob Jackson all had a sack. Josh Wilson got his first interception as a Redskin and returned the pick 20 yards.
The Redskins will now trim their current 80 man roster to 53 on Saturday. They won’t have another full practice until Monday as they prepare for opening day September 11th against the New York Giants at FedEx Field.
Phillip Buchanon left the game with a possible shoulder injury in the first half and didn’t return. Buchanon is already suspended the first four games of the season by the NFL for undisclosed reasons.
