After the debacle that was the Washington Redskins last year, the 2011 roster has been completely revamped. When Mike Shanahan took over as ehad coach, he did not have the pieces in place to run an effective 3-4 defensive scheme. Hence, the Redskins ranked 31st in total defense in the 2010 NFL season.

This year, the Shanahans addressed their defensive needs in both the draft and NFL free agency. With a true nose tackle in Barry Cofield and young talented linebackers in Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo, the Redskins seem to be building this defense for a strong future.

Washington Post columnist Jason Reid joined the Mike Wise Show with Holden Kushner to talk about the upcoming preseason game against Beltway foe Baltimore. According to Jason, “this is the first year of the 3-4 defense.”
