Led by Rex Grossman and Tim Hightower the Redskins outgained the Steelers 452-186 on their way to a 16-7 victory to open up the preseason.  The majority of the Redskins starters played the entire first half and the Redskins offense clicked right away.

Rex Grossman went 19 of 26 for 207 yards and a touchdown while Tim Hightower gained 44 yards on 10 carries.  Sanatana Moss had a big game catching seven passes for 64 yards and having a touchdown catch.

Some other guys with nice games were Evan Royster, making his professional debut, running 66 yards on 15 carries and Roy Helu, also making his professional debut, running 28 yards on eight carries.  Jabar Gaffney, making his Redskins debut, had five catches for 38 yards, Donte Stallworth had three catches for 46 yards, Anthony Armstrong had three catches for 32 yards and Terrence Austin who had two catches for 46 yards.

Brandon Banks had nice job on special teams returning a kickoff 58 yards and a punt 19 yards.  Graham Gano went 3 for 3 on field goals hitting a 32, 34 and 45 yarder.  Shayne Graham had a pretty bad game missing both a 29 and 49 yard field goal.  Aldrick Robinson also had a rough game muffing and fumbling two punts.

Rex Grossman looked really sharp and took a very big lead in the starting quarterback battle.  Kellen Clemens played almost the entire second half and went 9 for 17 with 105 yards including leading three scoring drives in the second half.  There were no turnovers by either team and only five combined penalties.

The Redskins hit the practice fields Sunday as they prepare for next Friday’s game in Indianapolis.  There were no significant injuries in the game, but Mike Shanahan said Chris Cooley will miss a few more weeks with soreness.
