The morning before Redskins players report for training camp in Ashburn, Albert Haynesworth was traded to the New England Patriots for a 2013 fifth-round draft pick.

Haynesworth is expected to make $5.4 million this season and $6.7 million in 2012.

Last season, the Haynesworth only played in eight games and netted 16 tackles, only 2.5 of which were sacks.  This past offseason was marred by a sexual assault accusation and a road rage incident.

Here’s 106.7 The Fan’s Redskins beat reporter Grant Paulsen’s reaction to the trade.

“This clearly has nothing to do with the draft pick, although the Redskins will tell you they’re trying to stockpile as many of those as possible–whether it’s a sixth-rounder on McNabb or any other round–they just wanted to wash their hands of a guy who was a complete headache for Shanahan last season.”
