The Capitals signed 37 year old veteran defenseman Roman Hamrlik to a two year, seven million dollar deal.  Hamrlik has played in 18 NHL seasons and has 153 goals and 471 assists.  Hamrlik has also played in 97 playoff games netting 2 goals and 34 assists.  Hamrlik is a big physical defenseman who can move the puck and is solid on the power play.  He also brings some veteran leadership to the blue line.

In Montreal last season Hamrlik had 5 goals, 29 assists and was +6 in 79 regular season games.  In seven playoff games he had 3 assists.  Hamrlik’s rookie season was 1992-1993 with the Tampa Bay Lightning and besides the Lightning has played for the Oilers, Islanders, Flames and Canadiens during his career.
