There wasn’t a Wizards uniform to hold up for Jan Vesely at his introductory news conference Monday at Verizon Center as the team waits on their new red white and blue threads for next season but the Wizards can’t wait to see the 6′-11″ Czech Republic baller run the court with Wizards point guard John Wall. Vesely is a high-riser, who can run the floor well and has great leaping ability, just what the Wizards think are a perfect fit for Washington.
Vesely will wear #24 for the new look Wizards next season and the team hopes he can step in and mesh well particularly with Wall.
“When you see John come down the floor, many times last year we didn’t have people that could run with John because he was so fast and that’s Jan’s strength,” said Wizards’ coach Flip Saunders.
The Wizards and Vesely admit he has to work on his shooting and getting strong for the rigors of the NBA. Vesely averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds for Partizan Belgrade of the Euro-League last season.
“He’s probably built more for our game than Europe,” Saunders said. “Here, there are much more open-floor opportunities, not as much zone defense, much more opportunities to do the things he can do.”
A Youtube sensation for his dunks, Vesely said he patterns his game after Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki and if you want, he brashly said you can call him the European Blake Griffin.
