Nationals Start Long Road Trip With Win In Arizona
Washington got seven strong innings out of Jordan Zimmerman and Wilson Ramos drove in three for the Nationals who kicked off an 11-game road trip with a victory over the smoking hot Diamondbacks, 6-1 on Thursday night.
Zimmerman (3-6) was as sharp as he’s been all season, giving up only six hits and the lone run in the seventh.
Michael Morse tied a career high with four hits and bringing in two runners as well while upping his hit streak to 11 games.
Washington was able to score early on Morse’s first hit of the night in the first, followed by a two-run double by Ramos.
Arizona, the hottest team is baseball the past month, hit the ball hard off Zimmerman at times but Washington played well defensively and kept the Diamondbacks from collecting their 18th comeback win of the season.
The second game of the four-game series is at 9:40 tonight with Yunesky Maya taking the mound for the Nationals.
