George McPhee, Bruce Boudreau and the rest of the Caps met with the media today and conducted their exit interviews with management.  The season was another disappointment for the Capitals after finally getting through a series in less than seven games, but only to get swept in the next round after having five days off.  There will be some definite changes with this team, but Capitals General Manager George McPhee said he expects Bruce Boudreau to be back.

The Capitals also have their fair share of unrestricted free agents like Brooks Laich, Jason Arnott, Marco Sturm, Boyd Gordon, Matt Bradley, Scott Hannan, Marco Sturm and Sean Collins.  Karl Alzner and Semyon Varlamov are restricted free agents.

The Caps also disclosed injuries this season: Alex Ovechkin was injured earlier in the year, but they wouldn’t disclose what it was, Mike Knuble broke his right thumb in game three against the Rangers and had pins put in his hand plus had to play with injections to get through the games in the second round,  John Carlson got a hip pointer in game one, Mike green got a hip flexor in game two, George McPhee said Tom Poti’s groin injury could be career threatening since they couldn’t get it back to 100 percent, McPhee also said Dennis Wideman wanted to come back in game two or three of the Lightning series but wasn’t ready yet, might of been able to play if there was a game six or seven.

Alex Ovechkin confirmed he will be heading to Slovakia to play for Team Russia in the IIHF World Championship.  The Capitals now have another long off-season where they need to work on shoring up their blue line and bring in a second and third line forward or two, plus decide what they want to do with Semyon Varlamov.

Check out what George McPhee, Bruce Boudreau, Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green, Nicklas Backstrom, Jason Arnott, Mike Knuble, Karl Alzner, John Carlson, Brooks Laich, Scott Hannan and Boyd Gordon had to say as they met with the media one last time this season.
