Reporting Sky Kerstein
The Caps find themselves in an 0-3 hole with game four tonight in Tampa. Only three teams out of 162 have ever come back from an 0-3 deficit to win a series. The Caps power play continues to struggle, 1-16 in the series, 4-32 in the playoffs this season and 5 for their last 65 in the last two playoff seasons. Nicklas Backstrom’s woes continue as well, he has no goals, two assists in eight games and led the team with time on ice last night, but had zero shots on goal. Backstrom doesn’t have a goal since March 22nd, 16 games ago.
The Lightning are 6-0 when scoring the first goal in playoff games this season and have won six in a row overall. The Lightning are also 49 of 51 on the penalty kill in these playoffs. The Lightning have dominated the third period in all three games, limiting the Caps to the 5 shots in each of the three third periods and out shot the Caps 15-5 last night in the third.
Michal Neuvirth (4-4, 2.03 GAA, .920 Save pct.) is expected in goal once again for the Caps against the Lightning’s Dwayne Roloson (7-3, 1.92 GAA, .943 Save pct.). Mike Green is very questionable to play tonight with a lower body injury, if Green can’t go Sean Collins is likely to take his place and make his NHL playoff debut. Matt Hendricks hasn’t played in the last two games and could be back in the line up tonight.
