George Mason’s Jim Larranaga To University Of Miami
George Mason basketball coach Jim Larranaga has agreed to a deal with the University of Miami to become their new men’s basketball coach, according to CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish. Parrish reports that a deal is expected soon.
This morning, the Miami Herald’s Michelle Kaufman told 106.7 The Fan’s “Sports Junkies” that a deal was imminent, and could be announced as soon as today. Kaufman reported that Larranaga was set to meet with Miami President Donna Shalala today. Click here to listen.
106.7 The Fan reported Thursday afternoon that Larranaga was not happy with the compensation his assistant coaches were receiving from George Mason. University sources told The Fan that salaries for Larranaga’s assistant coaches were average among CAA schools, and that two assistants were already interviewing for jobs at Florida and Louisville.
Larranaga coached at George Mason for 14 seasons. He won four regular season CAA titles, and took the school on an improbably Final Four run in 2006. Click here to view photos from his time at GMU.
