The Capitals returned home last night for the second time during their six game road trip.  They are 3-1 in the first four games and play the Senators Friday and Canadiens Saturday before coming back to Verizon Center.  Before practice today Alex Ovechkin, in full pads, skated and says he is feeling good.  Ovechkin missed his first game of the season last night and said the injury has been bothering him for two months.  He said they’ve been talking about him missing some games for about two weeks and felt this is the right time to rest up and be healthy for the playoffs.  Ovechkin also added that he maybe will be back in 5 to 7 days.

Jason Arnott skated in warm ups today and said he is progressing and felt better.  Arnott said he has dealt with this injury before, knows what to expect and hopes to play in some games before the playoffs.  Head Coach Bruce Boudreau said he wouldn’t be surprised if both Ovechkin and Arnott were back before the end of next week.  Boudreau said “they might” travel to Ottawa on Montreal when asked if Ovechkin and Arnott would be on the road trip.

Mike Green and Tom Poti both didn’t practice today and there is no timetable for their returns.  Boudreau called Scott Hannan “a warrior” after blocking a shot late in the game last night and said he’ll be fine.  Eric Fehr felt good after last night’s game.  The Caps had an optional practice today and this is who participated: 1, 4, 6, 10, 15, 16, 17, 21, 25, 26, 27, 30, 55, 74, 83, 89, 90.

The Capitals clinched their fourth consecutive playoff birth last night and are one point behind the Flyers for tops in the Eastern Conference, the Flyers do have two games in hand though.  The Caps also lead the Southeast Division by seven points, but the Lightning have one game in hand.  Check out what Bruce Boudreau, Alex Ovechkin, Jason Arnott, Eric Fehr & Marcus Johansson had to say following practice today.
