Reporting Sky Kerstein
The Capitals are without Alex Ovechkin for the first time this season and are playing the Eastern Conference leading Philadelphia Flyers for a chance to tie them in points atop the conference. The Flyers do have two games at hand, but tonight could be a big factor on who wins the conference. Michal Neuvirth (23-11-4, 2.42 GAA, .916 Save pct.) will be in goal for the Capitals vs. the Flyers Sergei Babrovsky (26-11-5, 2.56 GAA, .916 Save pct.).
The Capitals also have a chance to clinch a playoff birth tonight with either a win or a Carolina Hurricanes loss. The Caps will be without Ovechkin, Mike Green, Jason Arnott and Tom Poti who all didn’t make the trip to Philly. There is a good chance Eric Fehr will be back in the line up tonight after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury. Fehr has 10 goals and 10 assists in 45 games played this season. The Caps forward lines this morning were: 21-19-28, 25-90-22, 18-15-10, 26-83-16.
The Caps are 1-0-2 against the Flyers and in their last meeting, which was at Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers had zero penalties and Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau said today, “it might be the only time in their little history that thats ever happened.” All three games have gone to overtime and one to a shootout between the teams this season. The Caps are halfway through a six game road trip, 2-1 so far, and will head home tonight following the game and leave Thursday for Ottawa. Check out what Bruce Boudreau, Mike Knuble, Eric Fehr and Brooks Laich had to say following Morning Skate today.
