The Capitals got their revenge shutting out the Canadiens 3-0 and extending their point streak to five.  Jay Beagle, Mike Green & Alex Ovechkin led the charge lighting the lamp and Semyon Varlamov stopped 25 in getting his second shut out of the season and fourth career regular season shut out.  Click more for a recap and listen to what Bruce Boudreau, Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green, Jay Beagle and Eric Fehr had to say about the victory….

In the first it was pretty even till Jay Beagle fought for a puck behind Carey Price and came out right in front backhanding it by Price for his second of the year and giving the Caps an early 1-0 lead.  A little over three minutes later Nicklas Backstrom found a cutting Mike Green, perfect pass, who one timed it by Price while falling down for his seventh of the year.  Caps led 2-0 after one and out shot the Habs 10 to 9.

In the 2nd the Caps kept on firing but Carey Price was on fire, stopping everything from every direction and nobody scored.  Caps out shot the Canadiens 11-10 in the period, but were 0-5 in the power play so far in the game and playing another hot Montreal goalie which brought back memories of the playoffs.

In the third it was more of the same, the Caps couldn’t find a hole by Carey Price, but neither could the Canadiens.  Alex Ovechkin had an empty netter with 32 seconds left to win it for the Caps and get them to 22-12-5, 49 points on the season.  Semyon Varlamov stopped 25 to get his second shut out of the year and make Bruce Boudreau’s choice for goalie in the Winter Classic even harder.  The Caps were 5 for 5 on the penalty kill tonight, but 0 for 8 on the power play, which is their bread and butter.  Jeff Schultz made his return after missing nine games with a fractured thumb and was paired with John Erskine.  Coach Boudreau after the game said Jay Beagle is really making a bid to stay here with another impressive game.  The Caps had 30 shots on goal and 12-1-4 when scoring first, 14-4-4 at Verizon Center, 16-0-1 when leading after two periods and 21-0-2 when scoring at least three goals.  The Caps now get ready to play the long awaited Winter Classic in Pittsburgh on New Years day.
