Arenas Likely to Debut in NYC
Will guard Gilbert Arenas finally take the floor for the Wizards at New York Friday night? No definitive answer yet as Wizards coach Flip Saunders played it coy after practice today saying once again, “we will know about ten minutes before the game.”
Arenas has been bothered by a bad right ankle causing him to miss the first three games of the season but he participated in practice fully today and appeared as though the ankle was not bothering him at all. “Anytime you are coming back from any sort of injury especially when you have been off for a while you have to wait and to see how he reacts,” Saunders said.
Saunders did hint that if Arenas can play he would likely come off the bench. “Right now we would probably go with the starting lineup that we have just based on where we are and based on the unknown of where Gil is at,” Saunders. “I think we need to limit his time as much as we can but still for him to be effective.”
The Wizards would like to see how Arenas fits in with rookie point guard Joh Wall who so far has been spectacular. He comes off a 29 point 13 assist and 9 steal effort in the team’s first win of the season over Philadelphia Tuesday night.
